Are iOS apps more secure than Android? We put them to the test. Our security research team tested the 100 most downloaded iOS apps in the world against a repackaging attack. The results were startling: 93% of the apps were vulnerable! Download a copy of the latest App Threat Report for the full results.
There’s been a long-held belief that iOS mobile apps are innately more secure than Android, but with the recent discovery by LastPass of a fake version of their app in the app store, a new video piracy app that was found to have passed review, and Apple now being required to allow a level of sideloading by the Digital Markets Act, does that sentiment really hold true?
We thought this was a great time to test the world’s top 100 most downloaded iOS apps against a standard repackaging attack – where an attacker obtains a copy of an app, modifies it, and then repackages it into a new version of the app with modified behavior that successfully runs on a device.
